Souderton Project merits award

I have just received word that our development project for the old mill building at 117 Main Street in Souderton (site of Allebach Advertising and Main Street Java) has been selected to receive a Revitalization Award. This award was made in part because of the very collaborative nature of the revitalization effort in the Borough and that this project was one of the prime movers for this part of the Borough. We are very pleased to be receiving this recognition as it justifies our core belief in the principles of economically driven revitalization. This award, given by the Montgomery County Planning Commission, recognizes the complex inter-related nature of revitalization and is given to projects that demonstrate significant effort and effect for the whole of the community.
In late 2000, my partners and I identified these buildings as crucial to the revitalization of the downtown of the Borough, especially the east side of Main Street. It was decided to approach this building as the beginning phase for this precinct that consists of the turn-of-the-century buildings on Main Street. During development the Borough of Souderton was instrumental in establishing the parking lot adjacent to these structures and we worked with them to integrate the available site parking into that lot for ease of traffic flow and control. Significant interest in the Borough was created through this initial step and resulted in the development of the second building, the old cigar factory, which was taken over by the current owner for executive office suites. All this development was done at market rates under market conditions and did not involve grant monies to offset any costs. These projects have to date resulted in 25 additional professionals working on the Main Street of Souderton Borough and have the potential for even more. We consider this a very good beginning and will continue to work toward revitalization under this protocol.
Photos of the development are contained in our gallery's commercial office projects album under 105 Main Street: The Big House.
